Depression rates are rising and researchers and clinicians now says that depression often begins in childhood. This is indeed an alarming fact. There was a time when the prevailing philosophy states that children could not be depressed. However, this is no longer the case. Approximately 1 out of 11 children experienced some form of depression by the time they are 14 years old. If childhood depression is not caught early properly treated, the risk for relapse is extremely high. It is even more disheartening to know that the global figures for suicide in adolenscents is the second most common cause of death.
As such, it is crucial to start and instill the depression awareness in our younger generation by touring at least sixty local high schools to promote our depression awareness campaign and will be executed for at least six months in hope to inspire our younger generation to have a positive approach in life for a healthy nation.
During these road tour, messages and words of encouragements will be address out by influential personalities. Certified professionals, psychiatrists or doctors will be invited to share their insights about depression. Real life testimonies from depressed patients will also be one of the main enticements during these road tour.
As it is crucial to remind our society of the threat in depression, this microfilm competition is especially established to create an awareness of depression. Through the inventiveness in short film concept, the truth behind depression, the real depressed individual and those with unfortunate encounters in depression will be captured through effectively moving lense. Depending on the creativity of the contestants, we hope to trigger public of the seriousness of depression in today’s society through the story made by the contestants. This deadly silent killer will effectually be made known prominently reminding us once again that everyone can be exposed to depression. It comes without warning. Should we be ignorant, it will hunt us down and kills us slowly.
Everyone is invited to take part in this microfilm competition, be it in a group or individual with one submission. This assessment and judging will be based on depression title. The scope should cover the depression topic that is creatively presented in a story format. All entries will be required to submit a 5 minutes long microfilm. A All shortlisted entries will be assessed and deliberated by highly reputated judges where 3 winners, namely the 1st Prize Winner, 2nd Prize Winner & 3rd Prize Winner will emerge. Attractive prizes will be awarded to winners. The chosen video of the grand prize winner will be featured in all related road tour and finally, our very much anticipated annual concert.
